Science and Art - Heads and hands working together!

Ever wonder what hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecular interactions have to do with painting? What the computer chips in your Wi controller have in common with silk screen printing? Or how the Venturi effect can be used to create art. You can find the answers to these and other vexing questions while making your own really cool T-shirts!

Cool Science is partnering with Concrete Couch, FutureSelf and the Pikes Peak Library District in the Art Creates Community contest for a $10,000 grant awarded by the Bee Vrandenburg Foundation and the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, and the best part is that YOU get to vote for the winner!

Our project is titled "T-Shirts for Everybody", and we would like to offer a full summer schedule of FREE T-shirt making workshops, using recycled materials and a lot of really cool scientific principles to get ink (and who knows what else) onto shirt in the most creative ways, with real artists- and scientists- on hand for help and guidance. Workshops would be held on Wednesdays in America the Beautiful Park (during the Colorado Farm & Art Market), the Citadel Mall (Imagination Celebration Place), the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs, and several PPLD branches. Concrete Couch and FutureSelf will provide the artistic leadership, and Cool Science will do what we do best- point out the science that's all around us, even when we're just messin' around!

We could really use the $10,000, so read more about all the finalists in the contest, and if you like our idea best cast your vote for us before Sunday, March 14th 2010.
