Scroll down for the full schedule of events
As always, the festival officially kicks off with the 2021 Cool Science Carnival Day for Kids at UCCS on Saturday, October 9th from 10 am to 4 pm. We'll have exciting demonstration shows, laboratory tours and demos, rockets, drones, animals and lots of other hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) activities and exhibits for kids (primarily K-8th grades). It's all FREE (including parking) and fun for all ages!
In addition to Cool Science Carnival Day the CSCSF features 9 days of exciting, educational and engaging special events designed to showcase STEAM where it's taking place in Colorado Springs and around the Pikes Peak Region. You'll see that we've even squeezed in several events taking place before and after the "official" festival- there's just too much cool science happening in the Pikes Peak Region! We're kicking it off this year with a special pre-festival stargazing event at Thomas MacLaren School on Saturday, October 2nd. There will be food trucks, the Mobile Earth & Space Observatory (MESO), plenty of telescopes from members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society and of course Cool Science will be there with some fun activities an information about Carnival Day at UCCS and the rest of the festival's exciting events! What a great way to get fired up for Carnival Day!

This year we're featuring agricultural science. Take a short drive to Penrose's "Apple Valley" to discover one of the hottest wine and craft cider producing regions in Colorado. Several farms, orchards, wineries and craft cider producers will offer special tours and demonstrations- and there will be plenty of fun for the kids too (including pumpkins!) If that's not enough, you can also see how gourmet mushrooms are grown or tour a biodynamic farm.
Want to get out of the house and off the computer? There are stargazing nights, planetarium shows, underground cave tours and lots of nature hikes. You can explore Corral Bluffs, where recent fossil discoveries are shedding light on what happened after the dinosaurs vanished. Wander into a corn maze- and learn the mathematical trick that will keep you from getting lost!
You can also learn how hi-tech spectral imaging techniques are used to make damaged ancient books and documents legible again. Watch real scientists tackle stand-up comedy. Climb aboard restored streetcars that once ruled the roads of Colorado Springs or enjoy a special day of space science activities for the whole family at the Space Foundation Discovery Center. This is just a small sample of what we have in store.
There are events for all ages- adults, kids, teens and families - and most are absolutely free (some events may have a fee to help the hosts cover their costs).
You can find even more information about the special events and let us know what you think about the festival on our Facebook page.
Below is the full calendar of festival events. You can view it as a list (default) or by week or month. You can also select which events are displayed by target audience (that's the little down arrow on the right side at the top). Click on any event title for a detailed description and a link to pre-register or purchase tickets. Note that most events require a reservation (so we know how many people to expect) and some also require a small reservation fee to insure that the reservations only go to those who really intend to show up. [If you wish to bring a school or other group contact us and we may waive part or all of this fee.] You may also choose to show up without a reservation on the day of the event in case there is space available, but we can't promise that you will get in.
