The 2019 Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival • October 12 - 20
As always, the festival kicks off with the 2019 Cool Science Carnival Day for Kids at UCCS on Saturday, October 12th from 10 am to 4 pm. We'll have exciting demonstration shows, laboratory tours and demos, rockets, drones, animals and lots of other hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) activities and exhibits for kids (primarily K-8th grades). It's all FREE (including parking) and fun for all ages!
In addition to Cool Science Carnival Day the CSCSF features 9 days of exciting, educational and engaging special events designed to showcase STEAM where it's taking place in Colorado Springs and around the Pikes Peak Region. Enjoy two exciting events in the newly renovated US Air Force Academy Planetarium dome: the inspiring IMAX film "Dream Big: Engineering Our World"; and a Night Sky Safari of planets, constellations and other astronomical objects in the autumn sky. Learn about the role Colorado Springs played in 19th century scientific advances from local author Steve Ruskin, or how different hop varieties give beers their unique character at Bristol Brewing Company (and taste it for yourself). Watch real fire-fighters training at the CSFD's high-tech fire tower. Tour Colorado Springs Utilities' Bailey Water Treatment Plant or sample the naturally filtered water from the many artesian mineral springs which have made Manitou Springs famous.

If you like to cook, sign up for a Science of Cooking Class and discover the effect that water, heat and altitude have on the ingredients in foods as a master chef shares tricks and recipes to create tasty dishes- there's even a special class just for kids! Embark on an Underground Adventure at Cave of the Winds Mountain Park (for a special festival price of only $7 per person), or use your science knowledge and logic to escape from the Lethal Lab (a science-themed escape room experience at a special festival discount price). See what happens behind the scenes and watch a live broadcast inside the FOX21 news studio. Learn about real forensic science in the El Paso County Coroner's Crime Lab. Kids of all ages will have a blast watching our Cool Science Chemistry Magic show, learning about the science that makes some of their coolest toys work, or making Dippin' Dots with liquid nitrogen. Even the littlest of science fans can enjoy story-times with "Julie and the Atom" or "Ada Twist, Scientist". The festival also features the Colorado Springs Mini Maker Faire at Library 21c (Saturday, October 19th, 10 am - 4 pm). There are events for all ages- adults, kids, teens and families - and most are absolutely free (some events may have a small fee to help the hosts cover their costs).

Below is the full calendar of festival events. You can view it as a list (default) or by week or month. You can also select which events are displayed by target audience (that's the little down arrow on the right side at the top). Click on any event title for a detailed description and a link to pre-register or purchase tickets. Note that most events require a reservation (so we know how many people to expect) and some also require a small reservation fee to insure that the reservations only go to those who really intend to show up. [If you wish to bring a school or other group contact us and we may waive part or all of this fee.] You may also choose to show up without a reservation on the day of the event in case there is space available, but we can't promise that you will get in.
You can also download a PDF of our festival program flyer (765KB) and poster (right, 445KB) to help us promote the festival. |
