The 2020 The Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival will run from Saturday, October 10th through Sunday, October 18th. It normally features dozens of special events designed to educate, entertain and most importantly engage the general public with the wide variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) taking place throughout the Pikes Peak Region. This year, due to the health concerns surrounding COVID-19 we are planning for a mix of virtual (online) events as well as some (probably smaller) in-person events. We will create a schedule of all festival events and manage any reservations or tickets if necessary (unless you prefer to manage your own event).
This is your organization's opportunity to host your own special event or program that shows off what you do in a fun and engaging way. It may be open to kids, teens, adults only, families or anyone. You are free to do whatever you want (within reason of course), including determining the date and time, number and ages of the participants, require reservations, and charge a small fee if necessary to offset any unusual expenses (although we strongly encourage you to keep this free if possible, or at a very low cost so that all can participate). Examples of past in-person events include science trivia or comedy nights, talks, lab and facility tours, computer coding workshops, star gazing parties, guided nature hikes, science of cooking or brewing workshops, science story time for kids, farm tours, gardening classes and much, much more. For more special event ideas check out last year's festival page or the 2019 CSCSF events flyer (765 KB PDF).
You may also choose to host a virtual (online) event or program on any date during the festival using the video-conferencing or social media platform of your choice (we may be able to provide some production assistance if needed). You can also submit short presentations (~10-20 minutes) for our Cool Science "School Channel" that we plan to live-stream during the festival weekdays for teachers to show in their classrooms. We also plan to host a virtual Teacher's Resources Workshop (date TBD) where you can introduce local teachers to your organization's educational resources (particularly those online). Of course you could always host your own special event or program specifically for schools to use during the festival (and we would assist you with the logistics involved). You might also be interested in presenting (virtually) to a larger audience on Carnival Day.
Please select below whether you would like to host a virtual or in-person special event or program during this year's Cool Science festival (and you can certainly do both). If you have any questions before or after submitting the form you may contact us. We're always happy to discuss any ideas or concerns you have, and help you get started if you're not sure what you want to do or need any support. We'll follow up soon with more info or if we have additional questions. Thanks.
