2020 CSCSF Application for
a Virtual Carnival Day Presentation

The 2020 Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival Carnival Day at UCCS will be Saturday, October 10, 2020 from 10 am to 4 pm.  This hugely popular event normally attracts over 5,000 attendees and features dozens of demonstration shows, performances, laboratory tours, interactive exhibits and hands-on activities for kids (primarily K-8th grades), but due to the health concerns surrounding COVID-19 this year's Carnival Day will be a virtual (online only) event.  The restrictions necessary for large public gatherings just make it too logistically difficult and risky for us to plan for anything else at this time.  Hopefully things will be more normal by 2021 and we can get back to the hands-on event for kids that has become so popular.  BTW- if you want to see what "normal" looks like you can check out last year's Carnival Day.

So what does this mean?  This is our first attempt at a large virtual event so the exact format may evolve as our plans begin to take shape, but for Carnival Day we are planning a two-track schedule of live-streamed STEAM programs.  For both tracks the target audience is primarily K-8th grade students and their families.  Track 1 would be longer (typically 30-60 minutes) demonstration shows, performances, talks and virtual lab or facility tours.  We would probably connect to each presenter using a video-conferencing platform like Zoom, and then port the live video to a webcasting platform like YouTube or Facebook Live for the audience to watch.  Track 2 would be for mostly shorter (15-30 minutes) hands-on experiments and activity labs or workshops that kids would follow virtually from home.  For these programs we would require pre-registration and limit the number of participants so that we could use a video-conferencing platform like Zoom to allow for more interaction between your "teacher" and the participating kids.  Your presentation for either track could be live-streamed to us from your location, you could come to our studio location (TBD), or you could provide us pre-recorded video.  In any case we would webcast them live on Carnival Day, but also record all programs and make them available for anyone to watch later, including our "School Channel" for teachers to show in their classrooms during festival weekdays.

Please complete the form below if you would like to present any kind of virtual program during the 2020 CSCSF Carnival Day- we're really open to about any idea you may have at this point, no matter how crazy you think it may be.  If you have any questions before or after submitting the form feel free to contact us.  We're always happy to discuss any ideas or concerns you have, and suggest activities or help you if you're not sure what you want to do.  We'll follow up soon with more info or if we have additional questions.  Thanks.

You might also be interested in presenting a virtual special event program later in the festival week, which could be intended for any age group, not just K-8th students.

Request to present (virtually) on 2020 CSCSF Carnival Day (Oct. 10)

    Please respond by September 12th.

For all cases we will contact you to work out the details for live-streaming or transferring video files.
