Cool Science Live-streamed
Zoom STEM Labs

Join us every Thursday at 3 pm MDT for a live-streamed hands-on STEM lab for kids (via Zoom) in partnership with Concrete Couch.

This week (July 30th) it's all about static electricity.  First we'll learn a little about the matter and invisible forces involved, then if you're a Harry Potter fan you'll love it when we use some science magic to move and levitate objects!

This hands-on lab is ideal for all kid scientists ages 5-14 (younger kids with adult supervision), but space is limited so sign up soon.  This activity page will help you prepare, but here is a summary of what you need to participate:

  • Rubber (Latex) balloons
  • PVC pipe, ~1/2" diameter, 18" - 24" long (any hardware store should have this, and could probably cut it for you).
  • Cotton T-shirt, towel or piece of cloth
  • Polyethylene grocery bags (both the clear vegetable bags and the larger shopping bags)
  • Wooden table or other surface (painted or natural finish)
  • Scissors
  • Empty aluminum soda cans

Hope we'll see you Thursday!

For more hands-on STEM activities you can do at home anytime be sure to check out Try Science at Home and our Facebook page (where we post a new activity every day).  You also can watch a sample live-stream Zoom lab.
