Let the Fruitcakes Fly!
Cool Science is pleased to present our 8th annual Kid's Mini Fruitcake Toss on January 25th in Manitou Springs. Kids may drop-in anytime between noon and 2:30 pm for a FREE workshop to build their own solid wood mini catapult. We'll provide all the parts and materials to customize it any way they like. Once finished we'll also have plenty of ammunition - marshmallows and tiny fruitcakes - for kids to fling.
Here's a quick video showing how to assemble our own special mini catapult design: It's part of Manitou Spring's Great Fruitcake Toss, a celebration of everything fruitcake with plenty of family-friendly activities and contests next door in Memorial Park from 1 - 3 pm. It will be a full day of fruitcake flinging fun! Please help us keep this event free for all kids by making a suggested donation of $2/child or $5/family, either at the event (cash only) or online at Colorado Gives (just click the "Donate Now" button below to open a new browser to the secure Colorado Gives website where you can donate any amount using your credit card). Your generous donations help support this and all our Cool Science programs year-round. |

NEW - Mini Trebuchet Workshop for 6th-8th Grades!
It was so popular last year that we're doing it again! The first 8 kids (must be in grades 6, 7 or 8) to sign up will have the opportunity to build - and keep - a FREE solid wood trebuchet (over 3 feet tall!) from pre-cut parts. Our Cool Science volunteers will help with the assembly and show you how it works, then you'll have plenty of time to practice. You can even show off your skills later in the afternoon during an exhibition firing as part of the Great Fruitcake Toss. Kids are also encouraged to bring their own home-built mini trebuchet or catapult to toss some fruitcake.
Hurry and sign up below, we only have enough parts for 8 trebuchets {if you're not one of the lucky 8 you can still come and play with one of our pre-made trebuchets). |
