The 2020 Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival Carnival Day at UCCS will be Saturday, October 10, 2020 from 10 am to 4 pm. This hugely popular event normally attracts over 5,000 attendees and features dozens of demonstration shows, performances, laboratory tours, interactive exhibits and hands-on activities for kids (primarily K-8th grades), but due to the health concerns surrounding COVID-19 we have decided that this year's Carnival Day will be a virtual (online only) event. The restrictions necessary for large public gatherings just make it too logistically difficult and risky for us to plan for anything else at this time. Hopefully things will be more normal by 2021 and we can get back to the hands-on event for kids that has become so popular.
This is our first attempt at a virtual Carnival Day, so the exact format may change as our plans begin to take shape, but at this time we anticipate a series of scheduled demonstration shows, performances, virtual tours, talks and lab experiments or activities (for kids to follow from their home) throughout the day. These virtual programs (typically 10-60 minutes in length) may be live and interactive or pre-recorded for webcast during the Carnival Day. We may also present some of the activities that would normally have taken place on Carnival Day as special festival events later in the week, including a series of shorter virtual programs live-streamed for local schools. We are still determining the best ways to present these various programs (and are certainly open to your suggestions), but we will probably use a combination of Zoom (GoToMeeting, Google Meet, etc.), Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Streamyard and other software platforms. We can also link to other static content you have prepared (videos, web pages, slideshows, documents to download, etc.) which may be available anytime, but we would promote and highlight as part of the Carnival Day programming.
Please complete the form below if you would like to present any kind of virtual program during the 2020 CSCSF Carnival Day- we're really open to about any idea you may have at this point, no matter how crazy you think it may be. If you have any questions before or after submitting the form feel free to contact us. We're always happy to discuss any ideas or concerns you have, and suggest activities or help you if you're not sure what you want to do. We'll follow up soon with more info or if we have additional questions. Thanks.
