Artificial Intelligence: A Brief (and Buzzword Free) Introduction
Lt Col Adrian de Freitas, Ph.D, United States Air Force Academy
Summary:
In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has transitioned from a niche technology to a significant part of our everyday lives. AI systems ranging from military applications to self-driving vehicles are now commonplace, and the technology has matured to the point where it can be utilized by practitioners with little expert knowledge. In this talk, we will provide a brief introduction to AI/ML, and discuss some simple (and free) tools we use at the United States Air Force Academy to demonstrate and evaluate the technologies. We also discuss some commonly held misconceptions regarding what AI/ML can and cannot do, and close with our experiences teaching AI concepts to both Freshmen and Senior cadets at our institution.
