Presenters begin at 6:30 pm and typically speak for 60-90 minutes including Q&A, with food and drink available beginning at 6:00 pm. A wide variety of fascinating topics are presented by local scientists for informal discussion, and the relaxed atmosphere encourages anyone and everyone to come explore the latest ideas in science and technology. From practical to theoretical, the presentations and group interactions provide a fun and interesting way to gain an understanding of the world around us.

Gretchen Bliss will present a journey through the history of cybersecurity from its beginnings in the 1950s and Thomas Russell will speak to his journey and how to bring cybersecurity to everyone child to adult through activities and fun learning.

Thomas Russell is the Cyber Education Program Manager for the National Cybersecurity Center. Thomas retired as a member of the United States Army’s Signal Corps where he received his initial technology training and then worked for Time Warner as a network analyst in Littleton, Colorado , before moving to education. He is a Colorado licensed teacher for Career and Technical Education, Instructional Technology, and STEM. His education includes a master’s degree in education for Applied Technology from the College of Saint Rose, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management, and an Associate degree in Network Security from Colorado Technical University.
Ms. Bliss is the Director of Cybersecurity Programs at UCCS and has been involved in cybersecurity (and all it was called along the way) for over 25 years. At UCCS she is working to provide additional depth and breadth to the existing UCCS cybersecurity programs by expanding hands on experiences for students, bringing cybersecurity across the campus in academic programs and campus practices, increasing industry involvement, and meeting workforce demand. Most recently, she was at PPCC for 5 years and prior to that worked for 25 years in the intelligence community, as the NORAD Deputy Senior Analyst and Chief of Plans.
