Cool Science Live-streamed
Zoom STEM Labs

We're pausing these Zoom STEM Labs for now, but we might add a special one during our upcoming Cool Science Festival in October, so keep an eye on the schedule.  Below is our most recent lab as an example.

This week (August 27th) we will be working in the kitchen.  Learn about the science of food by making your own butter and crackers.

This hands-on lab is ideal for all kid scientists ages 5-14 (younger kids with adult supervision), but space is limited so sign up soon.  These butter and cracker activity pages will help you prepare, but here is everything you will need to participate:
For making butter:
  • Heavy whipping cream (make sure it's heavy whipping cream and not regular or table cream)
  • A small jar with a tight-fitting lid
  • Cold water
  • Salt
For making crackers:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Butter knife and spoon
  • Cookie or baking sheet
  • Rolling pin (optional)
  • Oven and Hot pads
